·      Red gel food coloring or gel frosting
·      Brown M&M pieces
·      Small paint brush

Directions:
1.     Remove one side of the OREO so you have you the other side and the frosting.
2.     Add a small blue or green blob onto the white center (doesn’t have to be centered)
3.     Place an M&M in the center of the blue or green frosting.
4.     Squeeze a small amount of red coloring on a plate and use a tiny brush to pain red veins on the white frosting of the OREO.

OREO SPIDERS
This OREO spider cookie is probably the easiest and cutest treat to make especially if you have a lot of treats to make, are in a time crunch, or are looking for something fun and easy to do with your kids.

What you need:

·      Frosting
·      M&Ms (optional)
·      Pretzels

Trick-or-Treat Safely this Halloween Season with These Safety Tips

It’s October! The weather is cooling down quickly, the leaves are changing, and Halloween is right around the corner. We are now having daily discussions about costume ideas for ourselves or our kids and the grocery store aisles are filled with orange-and-black-wrapped candy. However, Halloween isn’t what it used to be. Gone are the days where kids could run freely door-to-door and get candy from every house in the neighborhood. Because of this ever-changing holiday tradition, we’ve come up with some suggestions to make sure your kids are still able to enjoy the day.

Attend a Local Event

Every year a new venue for Halloween activities pops up. Local malls and shopping centers often have days prior to Halloween where they host activities for kids including trick-or-treating. On October 9, families can attend the Belmar Boo, a free community event for kids aged ten and under. This event is held at 464 S. Teller St. here in Lakewood and begins at 11 a.m. While this event is the closest to home, there are many other events in the Denver area for you to check out.

Participate in a Trunk or Treat

As a safe community option, many churches and businesses host trunk or treats. These events typically take place in a large parking lot and everyone backs their vehicle into a circle. Each vehicle is responsible for their own decorations and handing out candy. Kids go from vehicle to vehicle saying “trick or treat” to collect candy. This is such a fun community option because you typically know the people you are trunk-or-treating with and your kids are able to stay close.

Practice Safe Trick-or-Treating

The best way to stay safe on Halloween is to plan in advance. While choosing a costume, make sure your child is able to walk easily and can be identified quickly. Then sit down and plan where you will trick-or-treat. Choose well-trafficked and lit neighborhoods and go out in groups, if possible. If you are trick-or-treating after dark, be sure to have reflective tape and carry flashlights.  And lastly, always check candy prior to allowing children to eat it.

Of course, if you want to avoid all the hassle of trick-or-treating, just buy candy for 50% off on November 1! We want everyone to have a safe and happy Halloween no matter which option they choose. And, if you’re looking for a new vehicle for trunk-or-treating or just need to haul around a bunch of candy and decorations, check out our selection of new Ford inventory.

Keys to Car Seat Safety at Larry H. Miller Volkswagen Tucson

Larry H. Miller Dealerships has partnered with Safe Kids Pima County host a series of car seat check events at our Arizona dealerships. We encourage all to participate in the event at Larry H. Miller Dodge Ram Tucson on October 21, from 8 – 11 a.m.

September is National Child Passenger Safety Month and we feel that it is an important issue that needs to be addressed in our community. Proper car seat use reduces the risk for death of infants by 71 percent when involved in a car accident. Knowing how the proper installation of a car seat is, this next statistic is sure to be bone-chilling. About 73 percent of car seats are installed incorrectly. The sole purpose of this event is to ensure that we can protect as many of the children in our local community as we can by using this preventative measure to ensure their safety when on the road.

This car seat check event is free to the public and will feature members of the Avondale Fire Department and volunteers from Safe Kids who are properly trained on the correct way to install car seats to ensure the safety of your little loved ones. The event will also include a BBQ, face painting, a cotton candy machine, and other family-friendly attractions for all who come to participate.

According to Safe Kids’ website, here are five basic car seat rules every parent should know:

  1. 1- You need to buy the right car seat for your child. The correct car seat for your child depends on their age and size.
  2. 2- Use your car seat in the right direction.
  3. 3- Pick the safest location in the car—kids under 13 should ride in the back seat.
  4. 4- Use the car seat harness properly.
  5. 5- Install the car seat correctly.

These five rules are found on the Safe Kids’ website. You can learn more about these tips for car seat safety and further explore the Safe Kids organization and what they stand for on their website. https://www.safekids.org.

In addition to hosting four car seat check events in Arizona, Larry H. Miller Charities will donate $10,000 to Safe Kids Arizona to support their efforts. This donation will be used to provide car seats to participants whose car seats aren’t up to code or are unable to be installed correctly.

Here at Larry H. Miller Volkswagen Tucson, we care deeply for those in our community and our mission is to enrich the lives of others. Our fellow Larry H. Miller dealerships host events like this around the Arizona community because we care. Did you know that about 50 percent of car seats are not secured with a top tether? Watch Gary from Safe Kids explain how important this part of the car seat is:

Remember, the car seat check event will be hosted at Larry H. Miller Dodge Ram Tucson on October 21, from 8 – 11 a.m. Please come out and ensure that your children’s car seats have been installed correctly. The address for the event is 4220 E 22nd St, Tucson, AZ 85711.
